Zerust® Vapor Corrosion Inhibitors

Vapor Corrosion Inhibitors (VCIs) – A Corrosion Solution that will not stop just because the power does.

With all the uncertainty in today’s environment, you should not have to worry about your corrosion system being one of them.

Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP) Systems Rely on Electricity

Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP) systems are commonly used for tank bottom protection, pipeline protection, and other buried structures that rely on electricity to operate.

With ICCP systems reliant on an external electrical source, what happens when the electrical system powering them is compromised by severe weather conditions, outages, wire breaks, etc.? The answer is the ICCP systems become inactive leaving the asset unprotected and vulnerable to corrosion.

Operational Byproducts from ICCP Anodes Increase Corrosion Rates While System is Off

Additionally, there are some operational byproducts from ICCP anodes in the form of gases, which will increase corrosion rates quickly while the system is off.  The corrosion rates during a shutdown of an ICCP system will be high due to anode byproducts and naturally occurring contaminants. Metal loss during these times is cumulative and any metal loss from the inactivity of an ICCP system will not return.  Even if the external electrical source is in excellent condition, the ICCP system needs to be adjusted by a trained cathodic protection specialist to meet the appropriate cathodic protection criteria.

Vapor Corrosion Inhibitors (VCIs) Require No Electricity

Zerust has VCI chemistry, which adsorbs to the steel providing a corrosion inhibitive environment.

Vapor Corrosion Inhibitors (VCIs) are based on corrosion inhibitive chemistry. Once installed, VCI in vapor form and our proprietary Soluble Corrosion Inhibitor (SCI) component in liquid form will continue to protect the metals. This double action from Zerust VCI chemistry is unique to the ICCP systems employed.

Zerust VCIs can be a stand-alone corrosion prevention method, or a backup plan for ICCP systems, to ensure that regardless of electricity and power failures, there will always be an effective corrosion protection system in place

Vapor Corrosion Inhibitors (VCIs)

  • No Electricity Needed
  • No Manpower to maintain
  • No Regular adjustments
  • May be used with ICCP systems

Zerust VCIs are the Corrosion Protection System that weathers all storms.
